Hong Kong, 16 November,
2004 -- Japan's leading broadband exchange operator,
IRI Communications, Inc. (IRI-Com), announced today
a strategic alliance with CPCNet Hong Kong Limited (CPCNet),
a wholly owned subsidiary of CITIC Pacific Company (SEHK:
267) and Hong Kong's new generation carrier, to offer
international IP VPN services.
Under the agreement, both companies will provide high
quality and cost effective end-to-end IP VPN network
service between Japan and China, including Hong Kong,
to corporate customers in both markets. Under the agreement,
BEX will be able to quickly respond to the needs for
intranet and extranet connectivity among Japanese corporations
expanding into China.
IRI-Com and CPCNet believe that the international IP
VPN link between Japan and China will play a key role
in supporting Asia Pacific's broadband backbone. Both
companies have committed to supporting the development
of the region's communication infrastructure by continuously
upgrading their networks and enhancing their service
offerings to meet the evolving needs of enterprise customers.
With China gradually opening its market to foreign investments
since its ascension to the World Trade Organization
in 2001, many Japanese and European corporations have
started building presence in the market. Multinational
corporations, especially those involved in manufacturing,
are setting up branches in China to maximize operational
efficiency. These companies require a service provider
that can offer seamless local and international connectivity,
thereby creating strong demand for cost-effective, reliable
and high quality exclusive network between Japan and
China.
Leveraging MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) and
IPSec technology, the new international IP VPN service
will offer scalable high-quality, high-speed solution
to enterprises, using end-to-end IP data network integrating
the FLET'S access line of NTT West and NTT East, IRI-Com's
broadband exchange backbone network as well as CPCNet's
IP VPN network. This interconnection will enable customers
to easily create a VPN environment and dramatically
improve communication efficiency between their local
and overseas offices.
Unlike existing International Private Leased Line Connectivity
(IPLC) and frame/cell relay services, the IP VPN service
offered by IRI-Com and CPCNet provides cost-effective
and simultaneous connectivity to multiple locations
without the need to create a separate international
link for each office in Japan. Customers can easily
add more offices in the VPN network depending on their
business requirements.
IRI-Com's BroadEXchange Service; BEX is a Layer 3 Internet
Exchange (IX) service directly connecting cable, ADSL
and Fiber-to- the-Home (FTTH) providers and content
distributors such as Application Service Providers (ASPs)
and Internet Data Centers (iDCs) through a wide 1Gbps
or 100Mbps connection. More than 60 broadband network
providers around the region have already enjoyed the
service. Since July 2003, BEX has been offering BEX
IP VPN service to corporations, delivering highly stable
connection between locations for a variety of businesses,
using high-bandwidth connectivity capable of handling
both data and bursty voice and video traffic.

in the region. Leveraging on MPLS-based architecture,

(CoS) and with 16 managed POPs across Greater China
