CPCNet chooses Juniper Networks to Boost VPN Services in Greater China

Greater China Internet Solutions Provider Opts for Scalable MPLS Platform to Profitably Deliver Customized Service

HONG KONG – August 15 2003 – Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that CPCNet, a leading telecom and Internet service provider in the Greater China region will expand its Greater China virtual private network (VPN) service by leveraging on state-of-the-art IP routing solutions from Juniper Networks.

CPCNet, a CITIC Pacific company (SEHK: 267), has deployed Juniper Networks’ M-series platforms for its TrueCONNECT corporate private network, providing a robust and scalable IP/MPLS foundation to support the reliable delivery of multiple services for catering different communication needs of corporate customers and enterprises of various sizes.

“Nowadays, CPCNet’s customers are relying more and more on TrueConnect to link their geographically distributed businesses, hence, the unique benefits of proven reliability and scalability will be of paramount importance, and Juniper’s M-series platform perfectly serves our requirements”, said Mr Stephen Ho, CPCNet’s Chief Executive. “The MPLS infrastructure upgrade demonstrates our company’s commitment in providing our customers with high quality and professional network services with enhanced voice, video and data solutions over a quality network platform, ensuring they have easy access to its advanced features in most areas throughout the Greater China region.”

The MPLS-optimized architecture also enables the transport of Frame Relay and ATM traffic over Layer 2 VPN, ensuring support for both legacy traffic and new IP services over a single IP/MPLS network. This promotes network efficiency and scalability in order to take advantage of the growing demand for IP services in the Greater China region.

TrueConnect is an end-to-end managed network, connecting Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, ZhongShan, Suzhou, Dalian, Xiamen, Taipei, and other key provinces. Leveraging on MPLS technology to provide a wide range of quality data, voice, video, and fax services to customers in those provinces. More POPs will be completed within 2003.

Recently, research firm IDC predicted that IP VPN services in Asia Pacific would grow by 50 per cent over the next 18 months, propelled in part by companies moving enterprise applications online. By partnering with Juniper Networks, CPCNet is offering the latest MPLS-based solutions to business users in the fast-growing Greater China market.

“The choice made by CPCNet further reinforced Juniper’s commitment of helping service providers employ new services rapidly,” said Mr Eric Yu, Director of Juniper Networks in Taiwan and Hong Kong. “This strategy, articulated in our Model for Integrated Network Transformation (MINT), is winning support from Asian service providers such as CPCNet who are looking to meet the growing demand spurred by China’s entry into the WTO and to differentiate themselves by cost-effectively creating customized service offerings.”

About The MINT
