HONG KONG – July 11, 2002 – CPCNet Hong Kong
Limited, a CITIC Pacific (SEHK: 0267) company and a
leading Internet solutions provider in Greater China,
today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) with Schoolteam (Asia) Limited for an alliance
in providing managed IP-based solutions to the education
community in Hong Kong.
With the shared vision of providing cost-effective,
one-stop, managed solutions for primary and secondary
schools in Hong Kong to facilitate the implementation
of innovative learning and administrative programs,
and to enhance the communications between school, students
and parents, this alliance kick-starts the joint development
by CPCNet and Schoolteam to engineer new solutions slated
for launching before September. The new solutions will
entail Internet access, intranet environment, micro-payment
capabilities, multimedia applications, stringent security
measures and technical system support.
“We’ve seen a fair level of hardware readiness and
network connectivity in the primary and secondary education
sectors in Hong Kong. Value-added solutions to foster
creative teaching programs and effective communications
among schools, students and parents is the next wave
in optimizing information technology’s benefits in education,”
said Stephen Ho, CEO of CPCNet Hong Kong. “Standing
firm in our vision to provide one-stop managed solutions
to our customers, CPCNet is pleased to work with Schoolteam
in jointly developing a best-of-breed yet cost-effective
product for the local education sector.”
This strategic alliance combines CPCNet’s strengths
in meeting education sector’s connectivity needs and
Schoolteam’s expertise and experience in school IT solutions
provisioning. As one of the early entrants to the local
education market, CPCNet offers a complete portfolio
of tailor-made Internet solutions with catered connectivity
options and superb security measures for schools in
Hong Kong. Coupled with Schoolteam’s expertise in offering
a web-based communication platform to the education
community since 1997, the alliance vertically integrates
the strengths of both companies to deliver truly hassle-free
IP-based solutions to schools with substantial cost-effectiveness.
“As the market leader of web-based communication platform
to schools in Hong Kong, Schoolteam is always on the
look-out for opportunities to enhance its service quality
to the school community. Entering into partnership with
leading institutions and business enterprises presents
one of these opportunities. Supported by our technological
strength and market-driven business philosophy, we are
in a position to offer a wide range of innovative and
high value-added services to teachers, students and
parents. Our strategic alliance with CPCNet is a prime
example of such endeavours.” Said Mr. Gabriel Yu, the
chairman and founder of iTVentures Group, the parent
company of Schoolteam. “The partnership will surely
bring increased value to the customers at low cost,
as a result of the vertical technology integration.”
Schoolteam is the first to offer a web-based communication
and collaboration platform to the school community.
The Schoolteam platform is adopted by several hundred
secondary and primary schools in HK. Since its first
launch in 1997, Schoolteam has upgraded the technology
and introduced new innovative solutions on a regular
basis. Smart-card applications, micro-payment solutions,
school-based instant messaging, administrative functions,
and teaching tools, are but some of the new products
either in various stages of deployment, or will be introduced
to schools very shortly.
“The signing of this MOU symbolizes the best combination
of network solutions and education applications,” added
Mr. Ho. “This alliance would also be mutually beneficial
to CPCNet and Schoolteam in terms of extending our technology
and market leadership in education sector.”
