The Internet Super Carrier Achieves its First Milestone in Delivering LMDS

PSINet Reveals Plan on Wireless Broadband Access Service

(Hong Kong, March 30, 2001)
PSINet Hong Kong ("PSINet"), a wholly owned subsidiary of PSINet Inc., the Internet Super Carrier, today announced its launch of Local Multi-point Distribution Service (LMDS) upon completion of its first phase constructions. A certificate of completion has been issued by OFTA to PSINet, officiating its provision of services.

PSINet was awarded licenses for Local Wireless Fixed Telecommunications Network Services (FTNS) by the Telecommunications Authority (TA) in March 2000. To further substantiate PSINet's strategic direction as an Internet Super Carrier, PSINet, achieves timely delivery of wireless broadband services. PSINet announces the launching of LMDS as fast and reliable broadband services to its corporate customers, with product description and tariffs submitted to OFTA.

PSINet has met its commitment to launch its first LMDS services by 6 Mar. 2001, by establishing 15 hubs serving at least 30 buildings. "We are on track in rolling out the committed services by now. We have already exceeded the commitments to OFTA covering major buildings in commercial areas. At the same time, we are intensively expanding the network coverage and services to accomplish the coming needs of the territory." said William Kwan, President of PSINet Greater China.

The 15 hub sites covers Central, Sheung Wan, WanChai, Causeway Bay, North Point, Quarry Bay and Chai Wan on Hong Kong Island; Tsim Shar Tsui, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon Bay, San Po Kong, Kwun Tong, Kwai Chung and Lai Chi Kok on Kowloon peninsular.

"In line with our commitment to deliver the highest performance Internet services to businesses around the world, with the LMDS infrastructure, PSINet has more choices on the last mile circuit connectivity to deliver its services to the customers. It further enhances PSINet's control on the cost structure in providing Internet solutions to the customers," Kwan added.

Leveraging on PSINet's strength in Internet technologies and global network infrastructure, the adoption of wireless technologies enables it to bring more competitive-priced broadband Internet services and greater international backbone to the marketplace.
